Electric Stimulation
Electrical stimulation is a form of therapy that uses an electrical current to cause a single muscle or a group of muscles to contract. In rehabilitation purposes, Electric Stimulation is used in the prevention of disuse muscle atrophy which can occur for example after musculoskeletal injuries, such as damage to bones, joints, muscles, ligaments and tendons. We place electrodes on the skin, which carry electrical impulses to various locations to recruit the appropriate muscle fibers causing them to contract. Contracting the muscle via electrical stimulation helps strengthen the affected muscle as well as assist in promoting healing by recruiting more blood supply to the affected area. The therapist can change the electrical
current setting to allow for a forceful or gentle muscle contraction.
Ultra Sound
Ultrasound therapy uses high-energy sound waves (those above the range we hear) to help ease painful joints and muscles. Ultrasound
treatment is done by a therapist who guides the waves into the body from the head of an ultrasound machine. Results of using this method for arthritis pain relief will vary. The use of ultrasound in rehabilitation dates back to the 1940s. The use of ultrasound therapy has gained progressive popularity in departments of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation throughout the United States and Europe. Ultrasound is one ofthe best forms of heat treatment for soft tissue injuries. It is used to treat joint and muscle sprains, bursitis, and tendonitis.
Disc Decompression (Traction)
Spinal decompression is a non-surgical, noninvasive treatment for neck or back pain associated with a herniated or bulging disc, degenerative disc disease, facet syndrome and sciatica. Spinal decompression is performed
using a specialized table that "stretches" the spine. Recent development of Decompression Traction Equipment has led to a higher success
rate of disc healing than previous treatment options. The decompression traction procedure relieves pressure that builds up on the discs and
nerves by drawing areas of herniated disc back into place. This is accomplished by creating negative pressure within the disc, referred to as
negative intra-discal pressure, creating a vacuum to draw the bulging and herniated disc material back into the disc space and relieve pressure.
This process allows the stretched or torn annulus fibrosus tissue fibers to heal and tighten due to the slack created by the decompression traction
therapy.
Massage Therapy
Massage is the manipulation of superficial layers of muscle and connective tissue to enhance the function and promote relaxation and well-being. Massage involves acting on and manipulating these layers with pressure Target tissues may include muscles, tendons, ligaments, skin, joints, or other connective tissue, as well as lymphatic vessels, or organs of the gastrointestinal system. Massage can be applied with the hands, fingers, elbows, knees, forearm, and feet.
Multi-vitamins and Minerals
A multivitamin is a preparation intended to supplement a human diet with vitamins, dietary minerals and other nutritional elements. Such preparations are available in a variety of forms such as tablet, capsules, powders and liquids. Multivitamin supplements are commonly provided in combination with minerals. By supplementing the diet with additional vitamins and minerals, multivitamins can be a valuable tool for those with dietary imbalances or different nutritional needs. People with dietary
imbalances may include those on restrictive diets and those who can't or won't eat a nutritious diet. Pregnant women and elderly adults have different nutritional needs than other adults, and a multivitamin may be indicated by their physicians. Multi-vitamin and mineral therapy has become widely accepted and preferred to treat a large variety of conditions.
The chiropractic perspective on health and disease emphasizes two fundamental concepts:
1. The structure and condition of the body influences how the body functions and its ability to heal itself; and
2. The mind-body relationship is instrumental in maintaining health and in the mending processes.
Although chiropractic shares much with other health professions, its emphasis and application of philosophy distinguishes it from modern medicine. Chiropractic philosophy gravitates toward a holistic ("total person") approach to healing which combines elements of the mind, body and spirit and maintains that health depends on obedience to natural laws, and that deviation from such laws can result in illness.
Chiropractic Philosophy includes:
* emphasis on patient recuperative abilities rather than surgery
* recognition that dynamics exist between lifestyle, environment and health
* understanding the cause of illness in order to relieve it, rather than simply treat symptoms
* recognition of the centrality of the nervous system and its intimate relationship with the capacities of the human body
* balancing benefits versus risks of clinical interventions
* recognition of the primary importance of monitoring progress closely through appropriate diagnostic procedures
* a patient-centered, hands-on approach focused on influencing function through structure
* focus on early intervention emphasizing timely diagnosis and treatment of conditions that are wholly functional and reversible
Chiropractic philosophy blends an effective combination of conviction, critical thinking, open-mindedness, and appreciation of the natural order of things. Chiropractic focuses on the establishment and maintenance of a relationship between patients and their environment which is most conducive to functional well-being.
Symptoms
Scroll over the arrows where you are experiencing pain and click for a list of symptoms that chiropractic treatment can help relieve.
Head
Headaches (profacial pain), Sleep disorders caused by stress and anxiety or sleep apnea, and TMJ (Temporomandibular disorder) sometimes called TMD or TMJ are all common problems that may arise in this part of the body
Orofacial
If you are experiencing headaches, earaches, stuffiness, or ringing in the ears, or discomfort in the jaw, throat, or mouth area it may be a condition know as orofacial pain.
Neck
Injury, stretching, spasm, or strain can cause damage to the bones or discs or the muscles and connective tissues to the neck, causing pain, discomfort, numbness and/or tingling sensations in other areas like the arm and back.
Shoulder
The shoulder has 4 tendons; which are connective tissues that connect muscle to bone. These 4 tendons called the "rotator cuff," are subject to injury and discomfort due to wide ranges of causes.
Mid-Back
Pain in the mid-back is most commonly caused by injury or irritation to the muscles and connective tissues. A more serious mid-back condition can occur when the spinal bones become misaligned, leading to muscle strain, spasm, and dysfunction.
Elbow
The elbow is a source of frequent pain and discomfort, especially in physically active people. Pain in the elbow can be caused by inflammatory conditions like tendonitis, arthritist, bursitis or may also be the result of overuse of the wrist.
Lower Back
Pain in the lower back may be from a serious injury, inherited disorder or just normal wear and tear. As we age bones lose strength and for muscles and discs to lose elasticity and flexability making them less effective cushions for our lower back.
Hand and Wrist
Our hands and wrist are prone to repetitive stress injuries. Additionally sprain/strain injuries, and even fractures are common injuries to the wrist.
Hip
Hip pain can be caused by a number of factors like poor spinal mechanics, knee problems, foot and ankle problems, or muscular weakness.
Knee
Knee pain can come from an inflammatory condition such as arthritis, bursitis, or tendonitis. It can also be the result of a sprain or strain, dislocated kneecap, injury to the cartlidge tissue in the knee, or any number of conditions particular to the knee.
